International Literacy Day is today and has us thinking about whole body health. As people think of fitness, often their focus is on the exterior parts of the body. And as media often talks about muscles, shapes and curves, it is easy to see why. But remember, the mind is inextricably connected to the body. Long term good health cannot be achieved if there is an imbalance. The journey to well-being must include exercises that develop all parts of the body, including the brain.
We are huge fans of Marley Dias and her #1000blackgirlbooks project. We recently had an opportunity to attend the Roots Rock Run 5K hosted by the GrassROOTS Foundation. Marley and her mother Janice organize book drives to collect 1000 books with black girls as the main character. We are inspired by her and her family’s commitment to health, literacy, and physical activity.
