Spring has sprung! The time has arrived where spring fever begins to consume our body and minds with an anxious and excited feeling. The weather is getting warmer, the flowers are blooming and the outdoors is begging you to leave the couch. Well, the American Heart Association is too.

In recent years, our nation as a whole has become less active. We spend the majority of our time indoors, in front of a TV, computer or cellphone screen. This inactivity has increased the risk of heart disease, stroke and other diseases.

It is time to get moving!

Wednesday, April 6th is National Walking Day. This also begins a month long celebration that will inspire us all to become more active. On April 6th, the American Heart Association’s goal is to reach a total of 100,000 minutes across the country and wants your help!

How to Participate:

  • Gather a Philly Powered walking team and take a heart healthy walk on April 6th.
  • Log your minutes walked to the national total by posting them on social media using #AHALaceUp. For company and group walks, multiply your number of walkers by the minutes walked and post the group’s total using #AHALaceUp.
  • Post your group’s total using #AHALaceUp and #movesmyway.

So grab your friends, sneakers and get up and get moving! Start taking advantage of your heart health today. Learn more about starting a walking program here.
